Courage is not just about physical bravery – it can come in many forms.
Among these must surely be a readiness to do the right thing when others keep their heads down, wrongly fearing possible ridicule or embarrassment.
Anthony Green is a young man who has demonstrated both physical fortitude and great character after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
The 17-year-old has spent the last few months undergoing chemotherapy after it spread throughout his body as germ cell cancer – and has endured it all with little complaint.
But he has also shown a laudable willingness to have his plight publicised to raise awareness of the disease.
In doing so, he has demonstrated great maturity and sense, for many men still find it difficult to be open about heath matters, especially ones such as this.
Yet, unless awareness is increased, large numbers of men will remain ignorant of the disease, including what to look for and when to seek help.
And in case anyone thinks this is just a minority concern, it is worth pointing out that testicular cancer is the commonest form of cancer affecting men aged 20 to 39 years.
Thankfully, Anthony has responded well to his treatment and we wish him well.
We also thank him and his family for being prepared to highlight this vital issue.
