TWO different reports today tell two very different stories about Bradford.

On the one hand, asylum seekers and refugees - who can be a much-derided group of people by some sectors of the community who perhaps do not have the full facts to hand - are helping out in their adopted home of Bradford by taking part in a community clean-up.

On the other, a football club in the district finds it is so regularly plagued by (what one assumes to be home-grown) vandals that it might not be able to continue in its league if the quality of its facilities constantly deteriorate due to the attacks.

It is perhaps interesting that people who are new to the district and might have been forced to flee here under extreme circumstances seem to have greater respect for their community than the idiots who think it quite acceptable to smash up a local club.

Vandalism is a particularly stupid crime. What would prompt someone to cause damage to a community boon such as a football club, right at the heart of their own community? Is it a deep-seated desire to ruin the fun of others or do they just not realise they are making a mess on their own doorsteps?

Those are questions that most right-thinking members of society just do not have answers for. We can only hope the football club recovers from the attacks and the vandals are swiftly brought to justice. When that happens, perhaps a fitting punishment would be for them to put right the damage. They could certainly take some lessons from the refugees who are cleaning up Bradford out of their own goodwill.
