The importance of reading for our children is something that can never be underestimated, which is why the work of projects like Canterbury Imagine are so vital.
The work done to provide free books for children who may not otherwise have access to them is absolutely invaluable and will make a real difference to their lives.
It also gives parents a chance to experience the pleasure of reading with their children before they start school, helping develop bonds based on shared learning and imagination.
The scheme is affiliated to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a project founded by the American country singing superstar to improve access to books for children from deprived backgrounds around the world.
It has already helped 350 children and their parents in the Bradford area and has now been expanded to set up a new project in Manningham, giving more families the hope of entering the magical world of literature.
Those behind this fantastic service need as much support as possible to continue spreading the literacy message to as many families who need it around the district.
Instilling a love of reading into children from the earliest possible age will ensure they develop a love of reading that will help not only with their education, but with their whole outlook in life - and it will also bring them untold pleasure.
The Imagination Library is a fantastic story that must be allowed to continue to develop over many more chapters.
