Community should rally round family
8:44am Tuesday 19th February 2013 in Our View By Telegraph & Argus
The whole of Bradford should be hanging its head in shame today following our report that a mother has been forced to take her three young children abroad to guarantee their safety after a series of terrifying attacks on their home by racist thugs.
The very idea that a family who have lived peacefully in their Holme Wood home for three years can suddenly be subjected to violence and threats on a scale which makes them fear for their lives is depressing beyond words.
No-one should ever have to face the sort of senseless hatred and intolerant behaviour that makes them afraid in their own home.
Home, after all, is our place of safety: it’s where we go to shut out the world and escape our problems, enjoy our privacy and create a stable environment in which to bring up our children and live out our days.
To be intimidated out of it by thugs and bullies attempting to extort “protection” money is simply a nightmare and must not be tolerated by the authorities.
But neither must it be tolerated by the local community that the Szynalska family have settled into.
It’s in the interests of the people of Holme Wood to rally round this family and make it clear that they won’t allow these yobs to make their lives a misery – because who knows who could be next?
