Working through a ‘free’ weekend of pottering

8:26am Tuesday 18th November 2008

After spending what seems like weeks moving house, we finally have a free weekend – well, in theory at least.

Bonfire Night goes off with a bang and a howl

3:20pm Tuesday 11th November 2008

I have just about recovered from ‘Barking Dog Night’. You might know it as Bonfire Night, but to me it is the night when every Fido and Pooch yelps its way through the evening.

Moving house a nailed-on cert for stress

8:34am Tuesday 4th November 2008

Having spent the weekend moving house I have come to the conclusion that not all of Team Molineaux is fully committed to the cause.

The type of tune that is music to my ears

9:14am Tuesday 28th October 2008

I have just had a long discussion with my eldest daughter about music; there is nothing more certain to make you feel old. As we talked about the modern scene I kept trying to suppress the urge to ask, ‘but where is the melody?’ Eventually after listening to a few ‘tunes’ that thumped their way through my head, I blurted it out as if declaring defeat in our argument.

Why I can't Bear to watch bug-eating

9:12am Tuesday 21st October 2008

There was a time when Sunday afternoon TV was a family-safe experience, apart from Songs of Praise that is.

How you can tell which way the wind blows

8:31am Tuesday 14th October 2008

Taking the proverbial with quizzical sayings

8:25am Tuesday 7th October 2008

In a recent quiz we were challenged to think of 20 well-known proverbs. Fine, you might think – if we weren’t under the pressure of having to come up with them to save our team’s honour against other collections of humanity. As it was, we were struggling big time.

Is variety the spice of life, or just over-rated?

10:30am Tuesday 30th September 2008

I’ve reached the age when I need to utter phrases like ‘Is it Friday again? The weeks come around so quickly!’ This feeling is only beaten by the speed at which Mondays arrive, signalling the return to work.

Impending milestone makes me feel old...

8:28am Monday 22nd September 2008

Our youngest daughter is about to turn 18 and I am feeling decidedly old. The problem is not directly related to her age, but how I will now answer the question: ‘Do you have any children?’ It forms one of the many introductory questions that we Brits ask when meeting new people. Others include ‘Do you live locally?; ‘Where do you work?’; and ‘Are you married?’ What an interesting bunch we are.

Battle of big boys’ toys is mid-life amusement

8:34am Monday 15th September 2008

They say that midlife brings a certain crisis to men leaving them with a need to complete an unfulfilled goal.
