Bouncing back from party chaos

8:28am Tuesday 11th November 2008

Blow up the balloons and hang out the bunting because yesterday our little girl celebrated her fourth birthday with a party at home.

Technology sends me radio ga-ga

8:52am Tuesday 21st October 2008

When it comes to presenting a radio show, the question I am asked most often is what do DJs do when the record is playing? Is it a case of making a quick phone call home or doing your grocery shopping online while you wait for Kylie to finish doing what she does best?

Daddy is the king of the castles

8:24am Thursday 25th September 2008

At short notice and while we could still afford the fuel/car tax to get us to the airport last week, we decided as a family to take a break. Our annual getaway this year saw the Lindleys roll up in Spain and I don’t know who was more shocked – me, at how quiet it was in the hotel reception, or the receptionist herself who clearly had no idea that Yorkshire’s equivalent of the Beverley Hillbilies were checking in for a week.

Hair goes for yet another new style

8:38am Thursday 11th September 2008

There’s just no way round it – a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. Over the years I must have spent hours having it washed, cut, coloured and styled. It’s been nearly every colour under the sun and every length imaginable, and yet I freely admit that I have not yet decided which one suits me and I don’t think I ever will. So here it is, I introduce to you the Secret Hair Diary of Debbie Lindley, aged 35 and three-quarters (not including parts and labour).

More party fun is on the cards

7:21am Thursday 4th September 2008

I did something last week that I have never done before, and it’s left me feeling very guilty. So what happened?

Why I'm the one who's boxing clever now

9:43am Thursday 28th August 2008

I could never do my husband down because he truly is amazing – he puts up with me for a start!

No medals for me then, I suppose!

8:35am Thursday 21st August 2008

You wouldn’t believe the response I got following last week’s column about the Olympic Games, more especially my suggestion that watching the Olympics at home, in your favourite chair while balancing a remote control in one hand and a bag of crisps in the other, should be classed an Olympic event.

Spectator sports are exhausting

12:40pm Thursday 14th August 2008

So the Olympics are under way again. There’s sport on the telly round the clock and I for one am exhausted. Forgetting, of course, that I’m not having to push myself to the peak of physical fitness, it’s tiring to keep an eye out for what is happening and I’ve put in several late nights recently to catch things I wanted to see, likewise early mornings watching things I missed because I was working.

The festive fun arriving far too early

8:20am Thursday 7th August 2008

A few weeks ago, I jokingly mentioned that I had put my name down for a Tupperware Christmas catalogue, imagine my surprise when the self-same magazine dropped through our letterbox yesterday.

So good to be part of YTV history

8:33am Thursday 31st July 2008

Yorkshire Television is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and I guess you could say that all of us working there have truly entered into the party spirit. With posters around the buildings and memorable programmes being reshown on air you simply can’t get away from the celebrations, and I wouldn’t want to for one minute because the 40th in my mind is best compared to a favourite gran or grandad after a few sherries at Christmas – everyone likes it, it always looks good and every once in a while it blows your socks off! I still get a little thrill each time I travel to work and walk through the front door into reception, although recently management have taken to flashing up images of actors and presenters past and present which has had me scuttling for cover like a crab. Every day spent working at the studios in Leeds you are surrounded by history; whether it’s the clock from Countdown or a game from Bruce’s Price Is Right there are reminders of YTV’s history everywhere, and some in a place you least expect to find them. For the last couple of months, for example, I’ve been sharing the weather studio with Dusty Bin, yes THE Dusty Bin! I’ll tell you this for nothing, when you’re working on a weekend and there’s no-one else around it’s tempting to pop the batteries into the remote control and send it on a little trip around the building or maybe even down the shops – not that I ever have done, but you get the idea. I’ve also toyed with the idea of taking him home to show my friends but the chances of smuggling it past reception would be virtually nil, let alone transporting him in the car. Can you imagine travelling alone the M62 with his yellow hands sticking out of the sunroof? No, nor can I.
