It's hard to get going in the summer...

By Kahn Johnson »

The problem with the summer, I'm finding, is that it doesn't really lend itself to running - and Scamp agrees.

You see, the late evenings ought to be perfect for jogging about listening to Kermode's film reviews, but they're also perfect for sitting in the garden, And I now have a lawn to watch.

Then there's the bright sunny mornings. Again, these are perfect for a quick jog around the block, but they're also perfect for sitting in the garden reading the T&A with a cup of tea.

All that leaves is the rest of the day, and that's just too hot. Especially if you have a thick coat and eyesight that is severely hampered by bright light.

And Scamp doesn't enjoy it much either.

Although he does now have a 'summer coat'. After several failed attempts to get a pooch groomer to do what we actually wanted, The Wife found a parlour not far away who have managed to give Scamp a summer trim without reducing him to a walking itch.

Which is nice.

The downside is his tail has been given a crew cut, meaning his Saturday job of dusting low coffee tables has been put on hold.

I'm also sure it's damaged his self esteem, so that's another reason to not go out running.

But I will.

Soon.

Honest...
