No pain, no gain. Probably...

By Kahn Johnson »

The bit no one tells you about training is that it can hurt.

It doesn't help, I grant you, that I skipped a week due to my legs already being in pain, but one day back on the road and my kneecap was trying to detach itself from the rest of my knee.

Fortunately I didn't do anything stupid like go to see Foo Fighters and the Manics in Manchester and spend all afternoon and evening standing up. That would have been really stupid.

Pain aside, I've impressed myself with how much more in shape I appear to be.

When I first started, missing a week's training would put me back to fully unfit status, but this time around my run-walk ratio was heavily weighted in the run section.

Which was nice.

Elsewhere this week, I was surprised when a friend told me how he admired what I'm attempting.

I don't see what I'm doing as anything special - I actually think I could be doing more - but the fact someone else has been impressed enough to donate twice means I must be doing something right.
