The end of the Bradford League cricket season means that I'll have to find alternative ways of diverting myself on Saturday afternoons until April.

Though not a fanatic, my enjoyment at watching Saltaire, occasionally lending a helping hand and getting to know some of the stalwarts, has given me some real community feeling.

Oh I'll go along to Valley Parade in the hope of seeing Stuart McCall's lads doing well, but football is mainly winter work. Cricket brings the hope of long days, sunshine and renewal - in spite of the infernal clouds of midges.

It's just a pity that more people don't take advantage of the hours of entertainment and diversion on offer at Roberts Park, Jenny Lane (Baildon's picturesque ground at the top of Baildon) and other venues. Six hours, at least, for just £3 admission.

I've seen county and international players bowling and batting.

Although I try neither to dwell on the past nor project forward too much into the future, I must admit I do look back on my brief experience of Bradford League Cricket with fondness and look forward to another season.
