One mouse does not a Spring make

By Dave Barnett »

So one of either Kali and Shiva brought in a small field mouse last night, generally the first sign of warmer weather and lighter nights as the little critters are just waking up and getting moving, usually slow enough for the cats to pounce on them in the scrubland behind our house.

But, jeez, what a frisky little thing! I had it cornered at one point and it was leaping like a salmon and refusing to comply with all attempts to get it in either my cupped hands, a pint glass or a tea-towel.

Then it made a dash for the sofa, which I had to drag away from the wall but not before the mouski managed to hide itself in, variously, a carrier bag full of make-up (not mine), a tangle of lap-top wires (mine) and the manuscript to my recently-completed novel (the critter has taste).

All told, took about half an hour to get the beast and release it back into the wild, the living room a scene of devastation behind me.

Still, Spring is here!
