What a glorious day yesterday, with the sun shining and glistening off the crisp snow covering the countryside.
Just a shame I ended up with one or two bruises from four "full-body dabs" on the bike - i.e four tumbles, two on the ice and two in the fluffier snow!
Our regular Sunday morning trek round the district’s routes was a decidedly slower affair as we had to keep crossing, very gingerly, great tracts of either hard-packed, highly-polished treacherous snow or plain and simple ice.
For the most part I managed it, but when a couple of ruts appeared, and the front wheel started to ‘go’ in a sideways direction, I knew I was in for a tumble - and possibly some pain.
In the event, I managed something of a controlled plunge each time, and got off very lightly, so being able to continue with the three-hour ramble around the glorious countryside.
It’s a great feeling to arrive back home glowing from the brisk, fresh air and geed up ready for anything.
Shame all the snow’s going to melt soon.
