It had to be the most expensive drink I’ve ever bought.
Not that I begrudged my daughter her celebratory Kir Royale on her graduation day in Manchester one bit.
But £7 for one glass? They had to be having a laugh.
Still, when you’re in the celebration mode, such items seem of little consequence, even if they did make me raise an eyebrow at the time.
The rest of the day was excellent, with a very dignified but nicely relaxed ceremony in the airy surroundings of Bridgewater Hall.
Everyone was looking their best, all the graduates had huge beaming smiles throughout, and, like us, many a proud parent enjoyed their offsprings’ success.
Then, when it was all over, a tinge of sadness crept in at the thought that this was the end of another era, the parting of the ways for people who had become great chums in the best years of their lives.
Hopefully they will keep in touch and stay firm friends for many years to come… much like we did with our student contemporaries.
Maybe even buy each other over-priced drinks in the future to re-cement their friendships… and not care a jot about the price!
