In-flight info

By Doug Akroyd »

Being just back from an annual holiday abroad means that we have jetted in and out of the country, dabbing a hefty car-bon footprint or two in the process.

Green issues aside, one of the things that always strikes me about air travel - there are many, but let’s not go too far down that line for now - is the on-board announcements.

All those things that the air stewardesses read out over their tannoy system, piercing your eardrums with all those "special offers we have for you today" and "a super selection from the duty-free trolley" … all booming out at maximum volume.

And then, on comes the cap-tain, or his co-pilot, with what should be some quite interest-ing information about the flight path, weather, etc.

Unfortunately, because of their lofty status, and super-cool na-tures, this is invariably mum-bled indistinctly into their mouthpieces at barely audible volumes… and the information is usually lost in the ether.

Surely, with all that technology bristling around modern air-craft, they could get the volume balances a bit better adjusted?
