Crunch time

By Doug Akroyd »

It’s sod’s law, I guess, that when you’ve got a couple of stitches in your head from the cyst removal procedure that you’re gonna bang your head .. and inevitably right on the spot where you really didn’t want to.
Fortunately I was wearing a cycling helmet at the time, which cushioned the worst of the blow.
But what, you would be forgiven for asking, was he doing wearing a cycling helmet? Surely not cycling, was he?
Well, yes, of course.
You can’t let a thing like a few stitches get in the way of a brilliant biking weekend in the Lakes to celebrate a milestone birthday of one of the crew.
Perhaps I should have been a bit more careful on the severe, scrabbly, rocky, steep track coming down off a craggy pass… but there were people to keep up with.
So it was that I caught the front wheel behind a rock and collapsed in a heap into what I thought was a lump of grass. Unfortunately, it hid another lump of rock, and my bonce clonked into it with quite a force.
Ouch!
Fortunately, all remained intact, and off we all went again to enjoy the fabulous weather, scenery and conviviality of the rest of the weekend.
You really can’t beat it!
