Spring is sprung... nearly

By Doug Akroyd »

The battle has begun.
Staring out at the lawn from the comfort of the sun lounge, it would have been easy to succumb to the temptation to stay in the warmth and not fire up the lawnmower for the first cut of the year.
But the sun was shining, the sky was clear, and the machine was freshly back from having its annual service.
In short, little or no excuse.
So it was that Good Friday was again the day the gardening began in earnest... well, no, the day it began, full stop.
The dog was happy, too. She could play the same old game of sneaking up on me and the mower occasionally and grabbing the front wheel with her teeth before running off.
Presumably the neighbours will also see it as a sign of spring to hear me trying to admonish her and tell her to go away or stop it or other futile calls that she blithely ignores until she tires of the game.
Hopefully this morning's snow will call a long-ish temporary halt to the whole business!
