Conservative Philip Davies has held the Shipley constituency with a hugely-increased majority.
In taking the seat, Philip Davies said he didn't see high office or a ministerial position but "I will just seek to represent my constituents and do the best for my party".
He added: "If there were more independent minded politicians like me who spoke their minds, people would be more respectful of politicians. I will continue to do that."
Mr Davies said he was humbled that so many people had voted for him and that he wouldn't let them down and act just as vigorously for those that did not vote for him.
Labour candidate Susan Hinchcliffe said: "Obviously I am disappointed with the result but I would like to say thank you to my team and all the volunteers at Shipley Labour party. Thank you to the people of Shipley who put their faith in us, hoping we would win today."
Philip Andrew Davies (Con) 24,002
John Philip Roger Harris (Lib Dem) 9,390
Susan Kathryn Hinchcliffe (Lab) 14,058
Kevin Robert Warnes (Green) 1,477

If you look at the stats Phillip Davies is actually one of the most active MP's in the whole of Yorkshire, posing almost 200 questions in Westminster (some of our MP's amazingly are at 0) and you will be lucky to find another MP who replies to e-mails and letters so quickly. The people have spoken and with around 11000 (an increase from around 400 in 2005) many people of Shipley are obviously happy.
Oh no, not again :-( Was hoping for a better result than this. Would like an MP who actually cares about his constituents and isn't living in the dark ages on issues such as electoral reform and minimum pricing on alcohol.
Perhaps the Lib Dems would have done better if their candidate had better knowledge of the area and didn't live in Richmond, North Yorkshire! Surely they could have found someone more local to stand as a candidate?
