Mohammed Riaz (Con): “There are many issues affecting Bradford East and its people. Like the rest of the country, Bradford East has not escaped the devastating effect of the recession and Labour policies.

“After 13 years of Labour government, there are hundreds of thousands of people who are out of work and on benefits, school after school is failing children, violent crime is rising, and the city centre is deteriorating daily, while potential investors are unable to obtain finance from banks.

“Bradford East has not been helped by having a lacklustre MP, one who has failed to stand up for the area and its people.

“It’s time for change. Bradford cannot afford another five years of Gordon Brown’s tired Govern-ment making things worse. Bradford needs David Cameron and the Conservatives, with the energy, leadership and values to get the country moving.

“To form a Conservative government, Conservatives have to win in Bradford East.”

Terry Rooney (Lab): “The three key issues in the constituency are regeneration, jobs and education.

“Regeneration starts with the hole in the ground at Broadway. Next month it is ten years since the original contract for developing the site was signed, and six years since it was handed over to Westfield. It’s a blight on the whole city, but especially affects the city centre, and something needs to be done about it.

“The latest jobs figures show there are around 15,000 unemployed people in Bradford, which is still too many, and we need to do everything we can to get those people back to work. The ProLogis site is about to open, which is obviously going to be a big help, but we need to build on that.

“There has been progress on education but now the contract is coming back in-house, we need to make sure that we get high-quality people running education.”

David Ward (Lib Dem): “I will be a constituency-based MP prepared to make waves. It is time someone got angry with Westfield and let them know the damage they are doing to Bradford.

“As your MP I will make sure the Government understands the problems faced by people in Bradford East and gives the support needed.

“We desperately need jobs and I will give all the support I can to local businesses and help to forge closer links between the college, the university and local businesses. I will be an MP who takes a tough line on dealing with crime, especially drug-related offences – a few months in Armley Prison watching TV is not working.

“Finally, the circumstances of thousands of people in Bradford are made better each day by selfless heroes who work in the voluntary and community sector. With 30 years’ experience in this sector, I will be its champion in Parliament.”
