Philip Davies (Con) “There are very many local issues, but the main three are: “Transport: we have severely congested roads and the Airedale and Wharfedale rail lines are among the most overcrowded in the country. I will lobby the Transport Minister to ensure we receive a fairer slice of the existing transport cake to deal with these issues.

“Overdevelopment: I am utterly opposed to the proposed developments at Sty Lane in Micklethwaite and Derry Hill in Menston and will do all I can to help local residents in their opposition to them, including supporting a new Government in abolishing centrally-imposed housing quotas.

“Regeneration: while Bingley has enjoyed the opening of a new shopping centre, we need to see the regeneration of Shipley town centre. I will work with the Council and the owners of the shops to encourage them to be more proactive in finding new businesses who will act as a magnet for the town centre.”

John Harris (Lib Dem) “My three key issues are: “Regeneration: there is clearly a great need for regeneration, particularly in the centre of Bradford; completion of the Westfield development would be a big boost for the whole area. If elected I would lobby for inward investment, nationally and regionally, working with other MPs for the Bradford area.

“Employment: the national decline in manufacturing industry must be reversed. I will campaign to bring employers to the area and to make sure that training provides the skills that those employers will need their employees to have.

“Traffic flow: there is acute traffic congestion in the south of the constituency. The proposed Saltaire roundabout scheme and the Shipley Eastern bypass may bring some improvement but the long-term answer is to improve public transport, integrating bus and rail services. I will campaign for improved access to Shipley station and for a bus service to Baildon station.”

Susan Hinchcliffe (Lab) “Jobs and investment – If elected I will work to be a champion of Shipley, raising our profile regionally and nationally to encourage investment. I will also work with the local business community to see how we can link new job opportunities to those who might be struggling to find work.

“Reinvigorating our town centres – launch a shop local campaign to encourage people to buy from local businesses in the constituency as well as investigate what practical action can be taken to salvage Bradford City Centre which should have ambitions to be a destination shopping centre for the district and beyond.

“Safeguarding local public services – incredibly important to make sure everyone feels they are getting the best deal from public services. We need to keep on track with continuous service improvements and we need to listen to frontline staff about how they think the best outcomes can be achieved.”
