A UNIVERSITY of Bradford student’s film showcasing the city’s love of opera is to be shown to a nationwide audience as part of Covent Garden’s summer big screens finale.

Alina Marcu made the film about a screening of La Boheme on Bradford's Big Screen at City Park in July.

The Royal Opera House was so impressed with Alina’s film that it is to screen it during the interval of Rigoletto, broadcast live to Bradford and other UK venues from London tonight.

David Wilson, director of Bradford City of Film, said: “Working with young people like Alina is part of our ongoing commitment to training in Bradford.

"We’ve seen our best audiences for the operas this summer and so it is a real privilege to share the highlights of our La Boheme evening with the rest of the country as we enjoy the final opera of the Big Screen season.

"I would urge any of our die hard opera supporters who were at La boheme and were interviewed by Alina to look out for themselves on the Big Screen!”

Alina came to Bradford UNESCO City of Film team as part of a Bradford University summer placement scheme giving undergraduates the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals. Under the direction of City of Film she made several films about cultural activity in the city.

The second year student said: “I would like to thank Bradford UNESCO City of Film for providing me with the opportunity to work with them and offering me the possibility of creating this film. I am delighted that it will air nationally because it validates the hard work I have put into it. It provides me with a bit of much needed exposure in the industry.”

Royal Opera House chief executive, Alex Beard said: “ It is fantastic that the young people of Bradford have engaged so well with the BP Big Screens and in such a creative way. We are delighted to be able to include this work in the Rigoletto BP Big Screen and share it with the rest of the UK.”

The live, free performance of Rigoletto will begin in City Park at 7pm with pre-performance programming hosted live from London.
