A pioneering youth project set up by a Bradford teenager to help young people in Manningham is among the latest nominations in the Bradford’s Best Community Awards.
Hafees Hussain, 17, came up with the idea for a youth group in the area when he was just 13 and with the help of friends and family set up the Manningham Youth Project.
The organisation, which has been nominated for Best Community Group by Jamila Rafiq, runs homework clubs, excursions, healthcare sessions and football matches for more than 50 young people.
Mr Rafiq said his children had enjoyed weekly boxing and football sessions with the group and had also been invited on regular trips and outings.
He added: “This group has provided a range of excellent projects and activities for the local community. They have been involved with children and young people for over five years now and we have thoroughly benefited.
“The volunteers are very welcoming and helpful and we really appreciate their hard work. I wish them the best of luck and hope they can be awarded this great prize.”
The awards scheme, which is a partnership with City of Bradford MDC, aims to recognise the selfless achievements of people, groups and businesses in ten categories. Individual winners will receive £500 and groups £1,000.
