A FAKE police car has been seized by police after forcing a driver to pull over.

The black BMW, fitted with illegal blue lights in the grille, forced the other road user to pull over when the lights were activated.

The car also featured intermittently flashing headlights, giving the clear impression of an unmarked road policing vehicle.

Sergeant Barry Evans, of Durham Police, said: “It is an offence to fit lights like these to a civilian vehicle, let alone to use them.

“I’d like to remind anyone considering doing this that flashing blue lights indicate an emergency vehicle, and to misuse them could be more dangerous than the driver of this BMW perhaps realised.”

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the car, which has been linked to Darlington and Bishop Auckland, prior to being seized.
