A MAN has been arrested and placed on remand following a burglary in Allerton in the early hours of Thursday.

A family car and other property was stolen from the address.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "The vehicle was sighted casually driving into the city, then failed to stop for PC Cahill as he was travelling back to the station.

"The vehicle crashed in City Road causing damage and obstruction to the highway.

"The offender made off on foot and with the help of the local community, was detained close to the scene.

"He has been charged with burglary, theft of a vehicle, failure to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and for having no insurance."
