LATEST: Man in court charged with murder at Bradford house

A SHOPKEEPER has paid tribute to a a regular customer at her shop – who she believes was the man found dead in a Bradford house at the weekend.

The dead man, who has now been named as 39-year-old Tadeusz Pac, was described as a “good quiet man” by the shopkeeper, who asked not to be named.

Police were called to a house in Ashgrove, on the outskirts of Bradford city centre, by paramedics at around 1.30pm on Sunday. A police spokesman said the dead man had suffered facial injuries consistent with an assault.

Three men, aged 29, 33, and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in custody last night.

The shopkeeper said she believed the man who had been killed was in his late 30s and had only been living in Bradford for around ten months.

She said: “He was a quiet man, a good man.

“The last time I saw him and spoke to him was on Saturday night in the shop."

An Ashgrove resident yesterday said he did not know who the man was, but people had gathered in the street in the evening and he had heard the man was Eastern European.

A neighbour, who also asked to remain anonymous, said he had been shocked to see police in his street when he got home from work on Monday.

He said: “It is a very strange feeling. It is a big deal that somebody has lost their life so close by.

“I do not know any of the people who live in that house personally, but I think a lady who lives in one of the other flats knows one or two of them. Her son goes round occasionally.”

A police presence remained in place at the property, a three-storey Victorian terraced house, yesterday. The house, off Morley Street, is in an area where there are many student flats and properties rented out as apartments, overlooked by Bradford College’s Doris Birdsall halls of residence.

Ward councillor Aneela Ahmed (Labour, City) said yesterday she had not heard anything further from police.

She said: “I have not heard anything more. The police will come back to us as soon as they have anything more.”

On Monday, she said the killing was a “distressing incident”, and said that all three councillors extended their “thoughts and prayers to all those involved and the victim’s family”.
