Staff at the region's fire service headquarters had a surprise waiting for them this morning.

Workers were greeted by a stray horse in the grounds of the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service HQ in Birkenshaw.

Officers have take to social media to try and track down the owner.

The service's deputy chief fire officer Dave Walton said: "Come on #Yorkshire & #Bradford tweeters who owns this horse? #MoreThanJustFires."

A spokesman for the fire service said the animal wandered onto the site and was found by a security guard at about 6am.

He added: "We have put it in a safe area, given it some water, and are waiting to see if anyone comes forward."

WYFRS later posted a Twitter message thanking people for their help saying the horse's owner had been found.
