Arson suspected in Cleckheaton fire

Police are investigating a rubbish fire which damaged a door locking and CCTV system at a block of flats.

The fire under the flats’ foyer stairs in Turnstables Mount, Cleckheaton, damaged an electrical box.

It was discovered by one of the residents who managed to drag out most of the burning rubbish which had also triggered a smoke detector and alerted the emergency services. It happened at 12.40am on Tuesday.

A fire service spokesman said it was suspected the rubbish had been piled near the box on purpose and set on fire.
