New court built at Firth Park, Heckmondwike

The French game of petanque is being played in Heckmondwike following the building of a new court in Firth Park.

Enthusiasts of the sport, also known as boules, are hoping to form a club and hold regular meetings as well as teach the game to community groups.

They are also looking into the possibility of a pub summer petanque league.

The game is easy to learn and equipment will be provided. For more information, e-mail info@heckmondwikepc.co.uk.

I'd like to point out that the correct word is Pétanque not Pentanque

What a load of boules.

Actually Joedavid's idea is not all that bad. We play it out here in Cyprus more or less on any sandy/earth surface and boules can be had for about £20.
A good way to while away the hours.

I've seen it played outdoors in Sweden as well. It looks a bit of fun, and like you say, you don't have to spend a fortune on a pitch or the equipment.

Not a bad game and can be played by young and old alike. Not much space needed and a rough dirt, sand or even gravel can be used as it is more about lobbing than rolling.

Would you really?

Google it, I think you'll find you're wrong.
But hey, if it makes you feel good, who am I to argue?

Why my comment on this story deleted?
What was wrong in suggesting this game be installed in the City Park?

T&A - I noticed that you have corrected the mistake. Thank you

Mr Blonde - QED. You must have been using the Heckmondwike version of Google?
