Firefighters were called to a blaze at a lock-keepers cottage in the early hours today.

Crews were called to the building, in Elland Road, Brighouse, at about 1.10am, after reports that the roof was on fire.

A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said the blaze was believed to have been started deliberately.

He said: “The building belongs to British Waterways and we handed the incident over to them once we had put the fire out.”
