RECORD ticket sales have been announced for special performances of Les Miserables in honour of murdered Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox (pictured).

Hear the People Sing is a new project which celebrates all that Jo stood for and will see young people from the newly-formed Batley & Spen Youth Theatre Company perform the school edition of the musical.

To cope with demand for tickets, an extra matinee has been added at 2.30pm on Friday, August 11, and extra seats have been made available for all performances including the matinee and the evenings of August 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Performances will take place in Oxfam’s warehouse in Batley, which has been transformed into the Jo Cox Theatre.

Plans are under way for the Batley & Spen Youth Theatre Company to continue after the performances as a ongoing arts opportunity for young people. Visit wyp.org.uk for tickets.
