POLICE are appealing for information after a shop worker was assaulted with a crow bar in a robbery.

A male suspect demanded money and made threats to the lone 64-year-old man who was working at the Ackroyd and Son Convenience store, Leeds Road, Birstall, before assaulting him with what is believed to be a crow bar. The shop worker suffered minor injuries.

The suspect made off with an amount of cash towards Howden Clough. The incident took place at around 3pm on Monday, July 4.  

He is described as mixed race male, around 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build. He was wearing a grey hooded top, with the hood up, a black balaclava and black gloves. 

Detective Constable Simon Thomas, of Kirklees CID, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was around the area on Monday afternoon who may have seen anyone matching the suspect description, or who has any information to speak to police. Enquiries are ongoing."
