WHILE some X Factor winners fade into the background following their brief brush with fame, Joe McElderry has remained firmly in the spotlight.

Since winning the ITV talent show in 2009 the lad from South Shields has released four albums, performed for the Queen at the Royal Albert Hall, and went on to win another two TV talent shows - Popstar to Opera Star and Channel Four's celebrity ski-ing programme The Jump.

Earlier this year Joe, an ardent charity supporter, received a Silver Heart Award on behalf of Variety, The Children's Charity. He also recorded the charity single One World One Song with Dionne Warwick in support of The Hunger Project UK, and Abide with Me with the Royal Mail choir, for Prostate Cancer UK. Joe is also a regional ambassador for the Teenage Cancer Trust and, along with his friends and family, raised £11,000 through pedal power when they embarked on the 140-mile three day 'Coast to Coast' bike ride.

Aside from his charity work, Joe has a hectic schedule both on and off screen. He has been a regular guest on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff and has been one of the youngest celebrity guests to appear on Countdown's Dictionary Corner.

He is also proving to be a seasoned panto star, having appeared as the Spirit of the Mirror alongside Billy Pearce in last year's Alhambra panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - a role Joe will resume as a finale to his year with comedy duo Cannon and Ball at the Hull New Theatre.

This month Joe is appearing at Blackpool Winter Gardens playing the lead role of Tommy in the world premiere of The Who's Tommy - The Rock Opera directed by Paul Nicholas.

And if all that doesn't keep him busy enough, the 24-year-old is also writing and recording for his fifth album, and embarking on his Evolution Tour which brings him back to our neck of the woods next month.

His appearance at Cleckheaton Town Hall on Wednesday October 14 is one of around 100 shows that Joe and his live band are performing across the UK and Ireland.

Says Joe: “Performing live is my main passion so it was a no brainer for me to do so many dates. Due to the success of this year’s tour, I wanted to take the show to every corner of the country giving as many fans and music lovers the opportunity to see a big production show locally where perhaps they normally wouldn’t.”

The Evolution Tour will see Joe and his band perform hits from his pop and classical repertoire as well as songs from his journey on the X Factor, and he'll also be entertaining the audience with stories from his career so far.

“I can’t wait to get back on tour!" he says. "I’m extremely fortunate to be getting on the road again with the band doing what I love best, see you all soon!”
