DETECTIVES are appealing for information to trace a motorist who left another driver injured in a road rage incident in Birstall.

Police said the "traffic dispute" happened at about 2.30pm on Thursday in Gelderd Road near Birstall Shopping Park.

A 24-year-old man, driving a grey Ford Fusion car, had an altercation with the driver of a silver/grey Ford Focus. The men fought and the 24-year-old was injured by the other man's car as he drove away. He is currently being treated in hospital.

The Focus driver was described as being olive-skinned, of average build, with a big nose, black hair which was short on the sides and longer on top. He was wearing a black body warmer and jeans. He had a foreign accent and spoke in broken English.

Detective Inspector Stef Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said: "We are keen to trace the other driver, who we believe may have been injured during the fight, to speak to him about the circumstances of the incident. We are appealing directly to him to contact us at the earliest opportunity.

"This incident took place on a busy arterial route at a time of day when there will have been a number of people in the area. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation to contact us immediately."
