SHADOW Education spokesman Tristram Hunt visited Birkenshaw to meet residents, parents and pupils concerned about schools policy.
Mr Hunt spoke about Labour's plans for education and listened to local concerns about class sizes, support for teachers and school standards.
The visit was arranged by Labour's parliamentary candidate Jo Cox, who said: "Government policy in the last five years has destabilised education, cost a fortune and seen a massive rise in the number of unqualified teachers.
"You can understand why parents are worried about what is going on in some schools."
She said Labour wanted to replace "Ofsted bureaucracy" with a new peer-review system led by heads and teachers.
She added: "Every child in this constituency deserves the best possible start in life and that's something I'm committed to working towards."
