TAKEAWAY owners have been taking masterclasses, with people from 60 businesses attending since January last year.

Kirklees Council set up the free scheme to help the chefs produce healthier menu options without compromising on taste.

Six weeks after attending the masterclass, the council’s food safety team check to see if anything has changed at the restaurant as a result.

Cllr Viv Kendrick, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The classes are a great opportunity for takeaway owners to learn the secrets of healthier frying techniques and good oil management and vital hints and tips on how to make healthier swaps when preparing or cooking food.”

Takeaways with a hygiene rating of three or above can book onto the next masterclass, which takes place on Tuesday, April 21, from 9.30am to 12.30pm in Huddersfield, by calling (01484) 416883.
