PEOPLE in Kirklees are being urged to register to vote ahead of this year’s General Election.

This Thursday is National Voter Registration Day, and Kirklees Council is hosting a series of events to encourage people to add themselves to the electoral roll.

On the day, a mobile hub will be touring North Kirklees from 4pm onwards calling at various locations to encourage young people in particular to climb on board and register.

Anyone wanting to apply to vote must bring their national insurance number.

Spen Valley High School is among a number of schools, colleges and youth clubs running their own campaigns.

Not being registered can affect a person’s credit rating and they can be refused a loan, a mobile phone contract or be turned down for a mortgage or bank account.
