YOUNG people are to be taught that there is never an excuse for domestic violence at Christmas, in a new campaign beginning today.
Organisations across the Kirklees district, such as Kirklees Council, the Pennine Domestic Violence Group and the police, are teaming up on the drive aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds.
Rebecca Hirst, of the Pennine Domestic Violence Group, said the campaign would “encourage young people to re-think their views of what a respectful relationship is.”
Councillor Viv Kendrick, cabinet member for communities, said reports of domestic abuse tended to increase over the festive season.
She said: “Heavier drinking, money worries and unrealistic expectations can contribute to a seasonal rise in domestic violence .
“Victims need to know that abuse is not their fault and they do not have to put up with it.”
