AN INJURED woman was abandoned by a driver and third occupant who fled after a van went out of control and crashed.

Firefighters said it appeared the driver had lost control of the Vauxhall Astra van while trying to negotiate a turn from Valley Road into Thomas Street in the Mill Bridge area, Cleckheaton.

The van ended up crashing and the driver fled the scene immediately, along with a passenger who had apparently been travelling in the back of the vehicle.

An 18-year-old female passenger was hurt in the collision and was still in the vehicle when emergency services arrived.

Because of the potential for serious injuries, paramedics asked firefighters to remove the roof from the van, which they did and freed the casualty using a long board, to prevent any risk of aggravating injuries caused in the collision during the rescue.

The incident happened at about 9.45am yesterday.
