The hands of a town hall clock will soon be moving again, a local councillor has said.
The Cleckheaton Town Hall clock ground to a halt almost a year ago, to the dismay of residents and councillors.
Councillor John Lawson (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton) said there had been a protracted fight with Kirklees Council over who should pay for the repairs, and in the end local councillors went to Spen Valley Area Committee for the £4,000 needed.
He said: “The clock could have been working again much sooner if the council had got on with the job as it did in Dewsbury.
“But, in the end, knowing how important the Town Hall clock is to local people, we were able to secure the finances needed from the local area committee.
“Parts for a clock like this can’t just be bought off the shelf so some recasting is required which takes a little time, but residents can be reassured that the clock will soon be functioning again.”
