Police in plea after fire attack on flats

Detectives are appealing for information following a “dangerous” arson attack which put lives at risk.

Bags of carpet were set alight outside a flat in Clifford Court, Skipton, early on Wednesday.

The fire spread to a wheelie bin outside the porch.

The occupant of the flat was woken by his smoke alarm.

Detective Sergeant Alan Browne of Skipton CID, said: “This was a very dangerous and reckless act which endangered the life of the occupants of two flats.

Anyone who has any information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Skipton CID, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

An 18-ear-old local man has been arrested and released on bail while police inquiries continue.

A similar arson was reported in Lothersdale near Keighley on Thursday.
