Bid to move Barnoldswick primary school gathers support

A proposal to expand and relocate a Barnoldswick primary school to a high school site in the town has received the backing of Conservative councillors and school governors.

Lancashire County Council is proposing to relocate Barnoldswick C of E Primary School from its York Street building to a new site in the grounds of West Craven High Technology College on Kelbrook Road.

The proposal, if approved, would see the school’s capacity increase from 202 to 420.

Speaking at a meeting of West Craven Area Committee, County Coun Keith Bailey said: “It would be fantastic what the teachers could do with all that space. It would be a dream come true for them. This is the best thing that’s happened to West Craven in a long while.”

Committee chairman Coun Morris Horsfield said: “I think it’s brilliant idea that they’ll be together.”

Kelbrook and Sough parish councillor John Drury said: “We ought to welcome any work on improving the provision in West Craven. This is an opportunity for investment in West Craven and would be included alongside a major refurbishment of West Craven High.”

Barnoldswick Town Council has expressed concern about the proposal.
