The driver of a “distinctive” pick-up claimed a Skipton police officer was mistaken when he stopped him for speeding.
Duncan Monk told Skipton magistrates he was positive he had been travelling at under the 30mph speed limit in Keighley Road, Skipton, on June 20.
But magistrates found him guilty after hearing he had not regularly looked at his speedometer.
Monk, who denied speeding, had been clocked at 44mph by an officer outside the Rendezvous Hotel, the court heard last Wednesday.
PC Mark Brook told the court that he had followed and stopped Monk.
Monk, 52, who was driving a red Isuzu Rodeo, said he was sure he had not been speeding but the court heard that when stopped Monk had not protested his innocence.
Defending for Monk, Joanne Howarth said he believed the officer had been mistaken.
Monk, a self-employed block paver, of Boulsworth Drive, Trawden, was fined £180 and had his licence endorsed with five penalty points. He was also ordered to pay £600 costs and a £15 victims’ surcharge.
