Parents get police advice on internet safety

Parents and children in Skipton and South Craven are being given police advice on using the internet safely.

The drive is part of North Yorkshire Police backing for national Safer Internet Day yesterday aimed at promoting the responsible use of technology among young people and raising awareness for parents.

The force’s advice when using social networking sites is to make sure you know who is viewing your profile, make it difficult to be traced by the information you post and know who to tell if you are worried.

Parents are advised to make sure they know who their children are talking with online and to talk with them about any concerns.

To help the 70 per cent of parents of children aged 12 to 15 who say they know less about the internet than their children, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) will launch the Parents and Carers Guide to the Internet on thinkyouknow.co.uk/ parents.
