Bed manufacturer Silentnight has confirmed 100 new jobs will be created at its Barnoldswick base.
Britain’s biggest bedmaker, which was rescued from closure in May last year, has decided to focus production at its West Craven factory and, as a result, will close its Rest Assured plant in Batley by the end of April with the loss of 200 jobs.
It follows a three-month consultation period with employee and trade union representatives.
When the proposal was first announced, chairman Adrian Fawcett said: “We are operating in an extremely tough climate for consumer-facing businesses and Barnoldswick is large enough to potentially absorb the forecast production requirements of both these facilities.
“It is with great regret, therefore, that we are now having to consider the closure of Batley. We are extremely grateful for the hard work of all our colleagues at the factory.”
