Residents in Craven who want new parking zones in their community may be asked to become “champions” for their requests.
North Yorkshire County Council is to consider introducing a new policy for residents’ parking schemes and transport officers have proposed that a “self-appointed chairman” be put forward to show if there is local support for any request for a scheme, as well as acting as a link between the council and community.
They also suggest lowering a requirement which currently says at least 55 per cent of homeowners within an area proposed for a residents’ parking scheme should initially support it, and at least 50 per cent should back it during consultation.
Under the changes, at least 50 per cent of residents would have to support the request throughout the process.
