A MAN has died after an incident at a salvage scrap metal site.

His identity has not yet been released, but police have revealed that he is from the Skipton area.

The incident happened at premises in Carlisle, Cumbria.

Police were called to the site, Michael Douglas Auto Salvage, on Stainton Road, in the Etterby area of the city, on Thursday.

The call out came just before 11.30am.

Reports suggest the man had become trapped and firefighters were called to the scene to free him.

He was airlifted to hospital with "life-threatening" injuries, said police, but later died.

The deceased’s next of kin and the Coroner have been informed.

Meanwhile, police have said they are working with the Health and Safety Executive as they continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the death.

A HSE spokesman confirmed it was aware of this incident and is supporting Cumbria Police.
