A HOUSE was damaged after a mobility scooter caught fire.

The scooter was outside a bungalow when the blaze broke out.

An occupant of the bungalow on Pinhaw Road, Skipton, was given a precautionary check-up at the scene by ambulance personnel.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Both crews from Skipton were sent to reports of heavy smoke issuing from a property, and it was unknown if people were still inside the building.

"On arrival, crews found the fire to be to a mobility scooter, outside the property. The fire had spread to part of the fascia boards on the property, but had not entered the property. The crews extinguished the fire using one using a hose reel jet."

The fire, at about 7.45am on Monday, has been blamed on a defective battery on the scooter.
