TWO Steeton Primary School teachers have visited a partner school in Rome.

Wendy Hardcastle and Diana Linford took part in a week-long trip to study teaching and learning in the Italian capital.

They also gathered resources for a post-Easter topic on ancient and modern Rome and set-up a new project between the schools, which will enable pupils to learn about life in the others' countries and their languages.

Funding for the trip was provided by Erasmus+, which supports educational and training visits for staff and students to other European schools.

During their stay, Mrs Linford was also invited to interview staff at the Italian Ministry of Education about a new national digital plan for schools.

"We have been working with three Roman schools – IC Ferraironi, Romolo Balzani and Pisacane – on a number of international eTwinning projects over the last few years," she said.

"Pupils have studied 'farming around Europe' and the two world wars together and most recently worked on a joint project about Christmas decorations.

"The trip was invaluable and enabled us to get a real feel for teaching in Italy."

Whilst there, the pair also attended a Mardi Gras carnival procession and joined-in with an inter-cultural choir.
