A PUB landlord on trial accused of raping a young woman has told the jury she consented to sex acts with him and was "all smiles" when she left that night.

Kevan Lawson, 59, said he got into bed naked with his alleged victim, who is 37 years younger than him, at the Old Swan Inn on High Street, Gargrave, near Skipton.

He told Bradford Crown Court today they took part in sexual activity before he went into his lounge at the pub to watch television.

Lawson denies one offence of oral rape and three charges of sexual assault, all on the same date, in August 2013.

Prosecution barrister, Philip Standfast, alleges he forced the woman, who was 20 at the time, to engage in sexual activity in a bedroom at the pub where she was staying that night.

He had sent her sexually explicit text messages in the days before, and she said he had been drinking heavily in the bar that day.

Lawson said he went into the woman's room in his dressing gown to see if she wanted to have sex with him.

He asked her if she wanted a cuddle and she replied "yes."

She did not object when he climbed into bed naked with her.

He felt her breast and she touched his private parts.

There was no conversation between them and she did not say "no" at any stage.

Lawson said he never used any force, "she was quite happy."

"It was a hundred per cent with her consent," he told the jury.

He then went to watch the television.

She left the pub soon afterwards "all smiles and talking normally", Lawson said.

The trial continues.
