A MOTORCYCLIST has died after a crash near Sutton-in-Craven.

The 24-year-old was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary but died a few hours later, police said today.

The collision happened at 2pm on Friday in Pole Road, about a mile from the junction with Green Dykes Road.

The victim - understood to be from the Lancashire area - was riding a black Sukida motorcycle towards Cowling when it was involved in a collision with a black car heading in the opposite direction. The bike was displaying "L" plates.

Police are appealing witnesses to come forward.

Traffic Constable Dave Seavers, of North Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Investigation Team, said: "If you saw the collision or either of the vehicles prior to the incident I would urge you to contact the police straight away."

A man in his 20s from the West Yorkshire area has been arrested and questioned in connection with the collision. He has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.
