A THREATENED gala in a village near Keighley has been saved.

About a dozen people turned up at a meeting called in a last-ditch attempt to keep Cowling Gala going.

The future of Cowling Gala was in doubt The future of the annual event, first held more than 75 years ago, was thrown into jeopardy when the former committee stepped down and an initial plea for new volunteers met with a limited response.

Sally Horner, the new co-chairman, said around a dozen people attended a meeting to try and save it and villagers are being asked what attractions they want to see.

Another meeting is planned at the Bay Horse pub on Wednesday, November 12, at 7.30pm.

Next year’s gala is scheduled for Saturday, July 25.

But now plans are going ahead for next year’s extravaganza and villagers are being asked what attractions they would like to see.

“We managed to get together a group of about 12 people who are all passionate about keeping the gala going – we don’t want to see it die,” said Sally Horner, the new co-chairman.

“We’re having another meeting next month and would like people to come along to let us know what they want.”
