Controversial rules which have caught out motorists who believed they were parking legally on High Street, Skipton, are set to be changed.

County council highways and Skipton Town Council officers and district councillors have met to thrash out a new traffic regulation order.

It followed a recommendation from the last Craven Area Committee meeting that a new order was vital for the commercial wellbeing of the town.

The new rules will make it clearer when motorists can park on Skipton High Street on market days.

The more flexible regulations will free-up parking spaces in areas of the setts where market stallholders fail to turn up on market days.

In recent months, dozens of motorists have fallen foul of the rules.

Once the regulations had been drawn up, they would be advertised and the public given a month to comment as part of the consultation process.
